The versfest berlin is a literature festival for noteworthy contemporary poetry by poets all over the world, which is particularly aimed at children and young adults. The first edition of this festival opened in 2017 with a speech by Jacqueline Woodson on the status quo of poetry for young readers. The program spanned 25 events; the festival headquarters was the literature forum at the Brecht-Haus. In the workshops – which lasted several days – participants were able to work with the poetry of the festival guests through text, illustration, acting and dance. In addition, a poetry manifesto was published by the festival guests, the authors presented their poems written exclusively for the festival on the topic “imagine”, they curated an exhibit of exceptionally poetic books, and a master class in poetry took place.
